Dalton Lambert is the son of Josh Lambert and Renai Lambert and the older brother of Foster and his baby sister Cali. He is the oldest of the three Lambert children.

Insidious[]

He first appears sitting when the Lambert family moved to a new home. Playing around, he goes to the attic after the door opens on its own. He tries turning on the light, yet it does not work. Using an old ladder to pull from the light's string, he suddenly falls due to the ladder's poor condition, but seems to have received nothing but a little bruise on his forehead. After that minor accident, he's put to bed by his mother. However, on the following morning, his father is unable to wake him up. After running several tests, doctors conclude that he has no visible brain damage and are unsure about his diagnostic, baffled by the situation.

After three fruitless months, he's moved back into their home, where strange events start happening soon after, mainly experienced by Renai, who starts hearing and seeing ghostly figures moving around the house. Despite his apparent comma, Foster asks Renai to change rooms, since he's afraid of Dalton walking around at night. While Josh asks her to keep calm and attributes most of her experiences to stress, the situation comes to a boil when Renai finds Dalton's sheets stained with what seem to be a bloody imprint, asking him to move houses.

Dalton and his family move to a new house. However, the hauntings follow them there and become progressively worse. In her desperation, Renai asks Lorraine for help, who calls Elise, a gifted medium. Elise reveals that Dalton is a very accomplished astral projector, yet is ignorant of what that truly means, which has led him to travel too far into the Further, a dimension were the tortured souls of the dead linger for an untold amount of time, if not forever. He's been trapped there by malevolent entities, who wish to weaken his soul's link to his earthly body in order to inhabit it and fulfill their own agendas. While Josh is very skeptical of it, he changes his mind when he sees Dalton's drawings on the wall, alluding to the Further and validating Elise's explanation.

Elise manages to contact him during a séance, where she tries to call out to him, but he's terribly afraid to escape, citing The Man with the Fire in His Face, as the main source of his fear. During the contact, Dalton's body is possessed by the Lip-stick face demon, who manipulates him like a puppet to attack the participants of the séance with a mix of telekinetic power and beastly strength. Elise, however, manages to expel him.

Elise explains that considering how Dalton's body was possessed, he doesn't have much time before the Lip-stick face demon permanently walks into his body. Josh goes into the Further, where he finally finds Dalton, chained in the demon's lair. Although he frees his son, they are attacked by the demon, who follows them. They flee into the dark and rush back home to their bodies. Dalton, although assailed by the demon and separated from his father, manages to find his own mortal coil and wake up again, happily reuniting with his family.

Insidious: Chapter 2[]

Dalton begins to notice that his father Josh is acting strange, but it seems that he is unaware of his experience in 'The Further'. Dalton is awoken one night to whispering through the can on string by his ear. When he replies a women bursts from the closet in which the string ends. Dalton then realizes that the room is full of ghosts who promptly rush forward. It is then shown that Dalton has unwittingly walked out of his body again and rushes back into it as the ghosts tear his bed sheets in an attempt to get at him. Dalton then awakes in terror in his mother's arms.

As the situation worsens again, he realizes his father (Parker Crane) is talking to someone in the corridor, spurring Renai's suspicions. Renai sends him and his siblings with their grandmother for safety.

Before Josh attacks Renai it is revealed Dalton is at school. As Josh is about to kill Renai, Dalton hits Josh with a baseball bat thus saving his mother. Renai, Dalton and Foster flee to the basement locking the door as they go. Whilst Josh attacks the door trying to gain entry, Dalton offers to go into 'The Further' to bring his real father home. Renai at first refuses until it becomes apparent there is no other way out. Dalton takes the can on string with him so he is able to return.

In the Further Josh, Elise and Carl battle the Old Woman and Dalton enters the red door. When the Old Woman is defeated Josh and Carl escape into 'The Further' but are unsure where to go. As they are surrounded by ghost they hear Dalton calling them. Fighting their way through they then find Dalton who is overjoyed to find his real father. Dalton then begins to lead his father and Carl back home.

Meanwhile back in the real world Josh has broken into the basement ,and on knocking Renai aside, lifts a tool above his head to strike the asleep Dalton with. Just before he can strike, Elise attacks the Woman in White, destroying her memories, thus freeing Parker Crane's spirit, who immediately leaves Josh's body, who promptly collapses. Dalton is then able to lead Josh and Carl back into their bodies. Dalton awakes to find Renai clutching his body. When Josh awakes Renai is at first suspicious until Dalton rushes over to his real father, embracing him for the first time since he fell into a coma.

Dalton's final scene is when him and his father are being hypnotized by Carl so they can forget their experiences, suppressing their abilities, and return to a normal life.

Insidious: The Last Key[]

Dalton's appearance in The Last Key is very limited. At the very end, after the main events of the film have passed, Elise dreams with the Lambert family, perceiving the dangers they will face. She soon receives a call from Lorraine, asking for help regarding her grandson. Elise names him even before Lorraine does, and says she will help them.

Insidious: The Red Door[]

Appearance[]

As a child, Dalton is a thin young pale boy with light brown hair.

As a college student, he has grown to become a young man with long hair and very little body or facial hair.

Powers and Abilities[]

Dalton is what is known as a “Traveler”, psychics with the power of astral projection. Elise has stated that Dalton is a “very accomplished traveler”, as he appears to have more control over his ability than his father Josh does, enabling him to astral project at will without the need of being put in a trance.

  • Astral Projection: Dalton possesses the psychic ability to travel in his astral form away from his body, moving through the astral plane, interacting with inanimate objects, the dead, and even living beings. Dalton is also able to travel through “the further”, the dark realm of the dead. However, there is a drawback to Dalton’s astral projecting ability, which leaves him vulnerable to spirits around him when he travels too far. These spirits want to take control of his body and possess him since his body is vulnerable during astral projection.
